For the first time in its two-decade history, South Asians and communities from the region took center stage on a grand scale. The inception of the South Asian House marked a pivotal moment.
Collaborating closely with this newly formed entity, Pray choreographed a series of mesmerizing flash mobs that pulsated through the streets of Austin. Each choreographed sequence was a celebration of South Asian vibrancy, with many paying homages to the festive spirit of Holi, which coincided with the event. The response was electric as Pray and her team received resounding applause, leaving an indelible mark on SXSW and imprinting the colourful essence of South Asian culture on the hearts of Austin’s residents and visitors.
Every spring, Austin, Texas transforms into a vibrant cultural hub as SXSW welcomes people from all corners of the globe. Among the eclectic mix of attendees, Pray and her dedicated students have become an integral part of the festival’s fabric over the past two years. However, it was in 2023 that their involvement took on a particularly significant narrative.
